04.07.09: TIGER MOTH PAINTING PRESENTED TO PLANE HERITAGE BY JONATHAN MARGETTS

Plane Heritage was delighted to accept a painting of Tiger Moth G-ADXT from aviation artist Jonathan Margetts at our recent Goodwood flying event.

The painting, which represents XT in her current blue and silver colour scheme will be used to produce a run of prints which will be available for sale shortly.

Jonathan Margetts is an aviation artist living and working in Bath & North East Somerset.

His initial interest in aviation was inspired by his father who was in the Fleet Air Arm and was a keen amateur artist.

He has fond memories of the excitement of flying as a passenger in Auster Autocrats and a de Havilland Hornet Moth based at Ipswich Airport, his home town in his early teens.

Jonathan has no formal training in art and is self-taught.

In his mid twenties in the early 1980’s Jonathan discovered his love and talent for painting aircraft in-between jobs and exhibited some watercolours at an Aero-Jumble stand at RNAS Yeovilton where he sold his first works and received commissions.

In 1984 he received a commercial commission to paint six aviation paintings that were used by a major well known Greeting Card manufacturer.

Over the few years, Jonathan has been commissioned to provide quality aviation work from many parts of the world, from commercial outlets to private collectors.

Jonathan has exhibited and sold artwork at the annual Guild of Aviation Artist’s Annual London exhibition.

He specialises in creating individual paintings of General Light Aviation and several of his works now hang in Flying Clubs in the UK.

Jonathan has developed a passion for classic Vintage and Warbird aircraft and has recently teamed-up with Classic Flight and Plane Heritage Ltd. He has decided to donate specially painted artworks of their aircraft collection, so they can be used as prints to help raise valuable funds to keep these wonderful aircraft restored and flying.
